SMART Urban Sustainable Solutions

Argonne Project (FOAM)

Development of OpenFOAM for UES3 (Urban Environmental SMART Sustainable Solutions)

Sponsor: Argonne National Laboratory (Grant PTX-ANL 1F-60568)

(2022)

This project broadly deals with selection, implementation, and evaluation of an urban parameterization suitable for OpenFOAM (Open Field Operation and Manipulation) CFD software. OpenFOAM is a community-driven software platform with extensive range of features to solve complex fluid-flow problems involving passive and active scalars, chemical reactions, turbulence, acoustics, flow-structure interactions and heat transfer. It is adaptable to assimilate key urban processes such as radiation, vegetation, and factitious elements (e.g., buildings), and incorporation of vegetation is the main theme of this work.
