METEK Micro Rain Radar MRR-PRO
This unique state-of-the-art instrument combines the attributes of its predecessor Micro Rain Radar MRR-2 and a high-performance processing unit, thus significantly improving the performance with respect to accuracy, outdoor usage in cold environments (by incorporating a heater unit for the offset antenna), remote access, maintenance and as a stand-alone profiler. The MRR signal is transmitted vertically wherein a small portion of it is scattered back to the antenna from hydrometeors. Owing to the falling velocity of rain drops there is a (Doppler) frequency shift between the transmitted and the received signal, which is a measure of the falling velocity of the rain drops. Given drops with different diameters have different falling velocities, the backscattered signal consists of a distribution of different Doppler frequencies. The spectral analysis of the received signal yields a power spectrum that is spread over a range of frequency lines corresponding to the Doppler frequencies of the signal. (Manufacturer: METEK).
